CECI – the Citizen involvement in circular economy implementation project, will enhance circular economy solutions focusing especially on the sharing economy. The project content is in line with the objectives of the EU Circular Economy Package. It will develop local, regional and national co-operation, as well as support the regions to generate circular economy strategies and solutions where citizens have a key role.

The Päijät-Häme region is represented through the project’s lead partner, LAB University of Applied Sciences, and the Regional Council of Päijät-Häme. The business potential of the circular economy in Finland has been estimated at almost three billion euro. The sharing economy is a global emerging trend of the circular economy, offering substantial business opportunities that may be enhanced through international co-operation. The Päijät-Häme region is a pioneer in advanced waste management and industrial symbiosis. The participating countries are Finland, France, Belgium, Spain, Bulgaria and the Czech Republic, sharing a strong interest in exchanging knowledge on services and citizen involvement in the circular economy.

With the help of CECI, the partner regions will develop knowledge on the importance of citizens in the circular economy, and gain expertise in implementing new solutions. Furthermore, CECI will increase public awareness to create demand for sustainable services. The changes in consumption patterns will generate circular economy business opportunities, green growth and jobs.

The Regional Council of Päijät-Häme will focus on policy design, implementation and monitoring. We will benchmark good practices of the management and use of structural funds in other regions. The role of the Regional Council of Päijät-Häme is also to facilitate the implementation of new projects, and the reform of the management and strategic focus of the policy instruments.

The four-year-long project started in August 2019, with a total budget of 1.5 million euro. The Päijät-Häme region’s share is nearly 0.5 million euro.

Circular Economy Solutions for Citizens of Päijät-Häme – Action Plan (PDF) is a part of the CECI project. It was written in cooperation with the Regional Council of Päijät-Häme and the LAB University of Applied Sciences. Composing of the Action Plan was supported by a regional stakeholder group and an Action Plan working group.
